Gentioux-Pigerolles

Gentioux-Pigerolles ( Genciòus in occitan) is a common French, located in the department of the Creuse and the area the Limousin. It also shelters a small station of Ski touring (90km of tracks).

Geography

The commune of Gentioux-Pigerolles is located at the south of the department of the Creuse, at the culminating point of the road connecting Limoges to Felletin and about halfway of the latter and Eymoutiers. Gentioux gave its name to the Plate of Gentioux, during septentrional of the Plate of Millevaches.

The Maulde takes its source in the commune of Gentioux-Pigerolles. It feeds in particular the Lac of Vassivière, vast sea interior of 1100 hectares, created about the years 1950. It is thrown in the lake towards the peninsula of Broussat, then arises on the level of the dam Vassivière in the commune of Royère-with-Vassivière. But Maulde also feeds from other stoppings on its course: the stopping of the Mount Small drainage canal, the stopping of Saint Julien the Small one, then follows the lake of co. Helene in Bujaleuf. It is right after having accommodated water of the Langladure that Maulde becomes the Cascade of Jarrauds in the commune of Saint-Martin-Castle. In bottom of the Cascade which extends on 3,2 kilometers with a unevenness of 14 measure, there is a factory which made it possible to electrify Bourganeuf in 1889. After a course of 35 km, Maulde throws itself in Vienna.

History

XIX century : Since the the Middle Ages, as in all the communes of the department, much men every year in the big cities left on the building sites the building to be made engage as mason, carpenter, roofer… Thus they became builder of Cathedral, in 1624, they built the dam of the La Rochelle, at the XIX century, they participérent with the construction of the Paris of the baron Haussmann. Remarkable monuments

The War memorial the of Gentioux

It is about the one of the War memorials pacifist. It is one of rare (there are 7 in France of them). It was inaugurated officially only in 1985.
Like all the war memorials of France, it comprises the long list of the children of Gentioux died for the France (they were 63). But what is original here it is Cursed inscription the “is the war” under the list and the statue of an orphan the fist raised to the foot of the monument. It is more one call to the pacifism which an honor returned to the victims of this appalling butchery which was the war of 14-18.
It was built on January 29th 1922, on the initiative of the mayor of the time Mr. Jules Coutaud and of his council municipal.
It is classified Historic building and Maudite plates it is the war is irremovable.

Our-Lady-of-building

It is an immense statue of Granite dedicated to the masons, one goes up there by a path in the middle of the heathers, the base of the statue is decorated tools of mason.

The church Martial Saint

Old dependence of the Order of Malta (commandery of Cart-track), equipped with a square bell-tower at last century, it is a church of Romance origin, revoûtée of warheads at the 15th century. Inside, two low-reliefs of which one represents God the Father surmounting an escutcheon of the family of Aubusson supported by Adam and Eve.

The Bridge of Senoueix

This small bridge says Roman, true image of Épinal of the department of the Creuse, is located at 5 km in the north of Gentioux-Pigerolles. It spans, by its single made arch of large badly trimmed blocks of granite, the Thaurion or Taurion which is at this place only one small brook in the middle of the moor of the Plateau of Millevaches.

The vault To mitigate and the House of the notary

Located at 3 km in the east of Gentioux towards Pigerolles, the House of the notary is located at the site of an old commandery about Malta which belonged perhaps before to the order of Templiers. The current building was built on the initiative of Alexis Jabouille, notary royal, in 1760. He knew an agricultural vocation until the annéess 80 of the XXe century.

Located just at the top, the vault dates from the 12th century, it is right beside the cemetery where one can see engraved tombstones of the Maltese cross. One can also see there a cross with the Christ on a side and the Virgin Mary of the autre.

One can also visit in the vicinity a reconstitution of a medieval garden, with his aromatic and medicinal plants, his pinks, his tree of life .

Villemoneix

Small hamlet located at 5 km in the north of Gentioux. One can admire there the vault as well as a cross similar to the cross To mitigate (see above).

Lézioux

Small hamlet also comprising a cross with the Christ on a side and the Virgin Mary of the other.

Wind mills of Gentioux-Peyrelevade

Brought into service in January 2005, these 6 wind mills are located close to the village of Neuvialle halfway between Pigerolles and Peyrelevade.

The vault of the Rat

This small Chapelle is installed on a top surrounded by rock fall of a provision sometimes surprising. Top, close to the cross, one has a very broad point of view towards Gentioux. The vault of the Rat was the place of a blessing of the dogs, the day of the Roch Saint. Its way of cross, of which there remain only some crosses, was indulgencié by one of the Pape S the Limousin S at the 14th century.

It is located on the commune of Peyrelevade in the Corrèze.
