Gentelles is a common French, located in the department of the Somme and the area Picardy.

Geography

The ground of the commune is mainly argillaceous and fertile. It begins the plain of the Santerre. The ground forms a plate being inclined towards the west with a small valley, not far one finds a small eminence there; the Mount Gospel. The culminating point of the commune reaches 117 meters.

History

Gentelles one of the first donation was made with the abbey of Corbie by Clovis II and Sainte Bathilde.
The November 27th 1870, Gentelles , was the theater of a combat delivered between the 20th Battalion of Hunters and German. One counted, on the territory of the commune, 25 dead including 12 French, buried in the cemetery or a monument was élevé.
During the Great War Gentelles made hélàs integral part of the field of Bataille of the Sum. The commune was completely ravagée.
