Genitive (astronomy)

In Astronomy, the Latin Génitif is used to name the star S. One attaches the letter of the Greek alphabet corresponding to the brightness of star (α for most brilliant, β for the second, etc) to the genitive of the Latin name of the constellation. Therefore, the genitive of Gemini (the Constellation of the Gemini) being Geminorum , the most brilliant star of the Gemini, Beaver, is called α Geminorum.

This system is known under the name of Désignation from Bayer.
