Genevez

Genevez is a common Suisse of the Canton of the Jura.
Geography
Extreme altitudes of the commune are 1177 and 981 meters. Its surface is of 1364 ha of which the half constitutes wooded pastures and forests. The commune is composed of the village of Genevez, the hamlets of Prédame, At Sémon and the Nasty tricks, as well as isolated farms.
History
The oldest document mentioning Genevez goes back to 1381. It belongs to an inventory of the goods of the Abbey close to Bellelay, founded in 1136. Since this date, until 1798, Genevez form Courtine de Bellelay with Lajoux, both Fornets and Cerniers de Rebévelier. The Abbot of Bellelay was itself vassal of the Prince-Bishop of Basle, whose principality formed the current Jura and the Bernese Jura, as well as Laufonnais, now bâlois.
