Genevese national institute

The Genevese National institute is a Corporation of public Droit Genevese, of which the goal is the encouragement and the progress of the Science S, of the letters, the Art schools of the Industrie, of the Commerce and the Agriculture.

History

The first mention of the institute is made at the time of the meeting of the Grand the Council of March 3rd, 1852 when James Fazy, then president of the Council of State, presents a bill “Relating to the creation of a Genevese national institute”. The goal of the government is then to create a body equivalent to the Institut of France, divided into sections “to ensure the correlation necessary between the various branches of human knowledge and to thus encourage the manifestations of the intelligence”.
