Geneva is a city located at about fifty km of Chicago in the east of the Comté of Kane in the Illinois with the the United States. It counted 19 ' 515 inhabitants in 2000, it is the chief town Comté of Kane.
History
Geneva begins its history in the years 1830 with Daniel Shaw Haigh of Dutch origin. In 1833 it built a hut close to the Fox River. In 1835, Haigh sold its hut in James and Charity Herrington and left towards north.The house of Herrington became soon the center of Geneva, the locality was called then Herrington' S Ford then Fox . Margaret Herrington, the ninth child of James and Charity is undoubtedly the first baby born in Geneva.
In 1836, Geneva was selected like chief town of the county of Kane. What forced the authorities to find an official name to him. It was proposed to baptize it Campbell Ford, according to the names of James Campbell and Thomas Ford, police chiefs of the county. But one chooses finally Geneva on a proposal from Dr. Charles Volney Dyer who was a friend of the two police chiefs and came from the area of Geneva (New York) at the edge of the Seneca Lake.
James Herrington died in 1839. He had contributed to the construction of the city, had made the chief town of the county, had been elected sheriff and had opened there of them the first store, tavern and postal office named LaFox .
The railroad arrives at Geneva in 1853 with the Union Pacific Western line which was a major factor of the development of Geneva. Many people established a second home with Geneva which was perceived like an idyllic place. The train between Geneva and Chicago (approximately an hour of way) is, today, always very frequent by the pendular ones.
