It is James Mark Baldwin which invented the genetic expression Épistémologie which was popularized later by Jean Piaget which was, of 1955 to 1980, director of the International Center for the Genetic Epistemology of Geneva.

Jean Piaget employed this term to express its vision explaining the acquisition of knowledge in the child as being a construction. On the end of its life it will be attached to the current constructivist for which it is an important source of inspiration.
