General union of the stations

The General union of the stations is the first international organization having for goal to standardize the various postal systems of the country adhering to it. She was created the October 9th 1874 following the International Conference of the post office, which was held with Bern, the capital of the Suisse.

Following the big raise of the number of its members, it was renamed the Universal postal union, in 1878.
