General strike of April 2006 in Nepal
The general strike of April 2006 in Nepal was caused by the political clouts opposed to the constitutional takeover by force of the king Gyanendra who began the April 5th with Katmandou and other cities of the Nepal.
History
The rebels Maoists invited with a cease-fire in the valley of Katmandou in order to allow the behavior of peaceful protest . This general strike gave place to several demonstrations and whose repression made at least a dozen deaths. A Couvre-feu was issued by the government the April 8th and the police force received the order to draw at sight on any demonstrator. In spite of these measurements, the demonstrations nevertheless continued, while the claims of the opponents were radicalized: much of them claiming from now on abolition monarchy and setting-up a Republic.The April 9th, a coalition of the seven political principal parties of the country announced that it intended to continue the protests until new order and asked the taxpayers to cease paying their tax S and their Taxe S. the government announced that it intended to intensify measurements ensuring the curfew and estimates that the rebels Maoists are with the source of the whole of the demonstrations. Prachanda, the leader of the Nepalese Communist party (Maoist) declared: It does not act more than one protest action of the opposition parties… it is now a popular rising and informed that it could carry out well to him even the revolt in the capital.
Le evening of the Monday, April 24, 2006, ten minutes before midnight, king Gyanendra yielded to the calls of the street. The day before an popular assembly which promised to be particularly followed and violent one, he announced that he gave again the capacity at the Parliament, and invited it to meet four day later. The government will be formed under the control of Girija Prasad Koirala, appointed Prime Minister by the seven large partis.
Les rebellious Maoists however did not accept the proposal of the king, and denounced the rupture of the agreement which associated them with the seven parties in a coalition of opposition to the roi.
Les parties announced right now that they would pronounce a cease-fire with the Maoists. It is not very probable, however, that those the suivent.
