General paymaster (France)

In France, the general paymaster (TPG) is a senior official of the ministry for the Budget, Public accounts and Public office. It animates in its department the network of the Treasury, network directed at the central level by the Head office of the public accounts.
Major actor of public finances of his department or his area, the TPG directs an administration of important size. It acts on the ground at the same time as treasurer, accountant, controller, economic council and financier and “manager”. He is to some extent the “local banker” of the State and the local government agencies.
The general paymaster of Île-de-France is called General Receveur of Finances.
The function of general paymaster is one of remunerative of the high public office, because of a variable share function of the amount of the managed financial affairs.
