General information of Metz

Three Evêchés and Clermontois.

Out the period preceding the Revolution, the general information of Metz was generally composed of eleven subdelegations or bailliages.

The general information according to the Payments of February 7th, March 15th, April 6th, 1789 (General states)

These payments gives the composition of the general information the day before the Revolution and fixes the stages of the election of the deputies for Versailles.

  • Bailliage of Metz, 8 deputies, (5 bailliages principal tiny rooms + 1 secondary); town of Metz, 1 deputy;

  • Bailliage de Sedan, 4 deputies, (4 bailliages principal tiny rooms + 2 secondaries);
  • Bailliage de Toul, 4 deputies, (2 bailliages principal tiny rooms);
  • Bailliage de Verdun, 4 deputies, (2 bailliages principal tiny rooms + 1 secondary);
  • Bailliage de Carignan, the main thing but reduced to Sedan;
  • Bailliage of Castle-Regnault, the main thing but reduced to Sedan;
  • Bailliage of Clermont-in-Argonne, the main thing but reduced to Verdun;
  • Bailliage of Longwy, the main thing but reduced to Metz;
  • Bailliage de Marville, secondary reduced to Verdun;
  • Bailliage de Mohon, the main thing but reduced to Sedan;
  • Bailliage de Montmédy, secondary reduced to Sedan;
  • Bailliage de Mouzon, the main thing but reduced to Sedan;
  • Bailliage de Phalsbourg, secondary reduced to Metz;
  • Bailliage of Sarrebourg, the main thing but reduced to Metz;
