General election saskatchewanaise of 1999
The general election saskatchewanaise of 1999 is held the September 16th 1996 in order to elect the Député S of the legislative Assemblée of Saskatchewan. It is about the 24e general election in this province of the Canada since its creation in 1905. The Nouveau Democratic party succeeds in surviving advanced of new the Parti saskatchewanais and forms a Minority government.
Context
The New Democratic party of the Prime Minister Roy Romanow, with the catches with a bad agricultural season and a scandal relating to SaskPower (the company of the Crown which manages electricity in the province) loses a big part of the popular vote compared to the preceding election with the profit of the Party saskatchewanais and gains exactly half of the 58 seats to the legislative Parliament; it succeeds in forming a minority government with the support of the deputies of the Liberal party.
The Parti saskatchewanais was a new party of center-right created by former members of the Parti progressist-conservative and members the Liberal party which were dissatisfied with the direction of Jim Melenchuk. It is thus the first time that the party takes part in the elections; it is directed by Elwin Hermanson, old a appointed federal of the Parti reformist. The party gains the greatest part of the popular vote with 39,61%, preceding accuracy the New Democratic party which collects 38,73%. However, it gains only 25 seats against the 29 of the NPD and must be satisfied to form the official opposition.
Certain néo-democrats, dissatisfied with the government of Roy Romanow, had left the party to form the New Green Alliance, a party environmentalist. The party succeeds in taking approximately 1% of the voices and does not obtain any seat with the Parliament.
The Parti progressist-conservative introduces fourteen candidates paper, all in fortresses néo-democrats, in order to keep his statute as a recorded political party. The tories do not conduct any campaign and does not defer that a handle of votes.

Notes:
1 the district Wood River was initially gained by the Liberal party; however, the result was cancelled by the courts. The Party saskatchewanais gains the by-election which followed.
