General election britanno-Colombian of 1933
The general election britanno-Colombian of 1933 was started the September 13rd 1933 and was held the November 2nd in order to elect the Député S of the 17th legislature to the legislative Assemblée of the Colombia-British. It is about the 17th general election in the province since the adhesion of the Colombia-British to the Canada in 1871. The Liberal party of the Colombia-British, directed by Thomas Dufferin Pattullo, gains the victory and forms a majority Gouvernement.
The Federation of the co-operative Commonwealth (social democrat), taking part in the elections for the first time, forms the official opposition.
Because of internal dissensions, the provincial executive of the Conservative party choose not to take part officially in the election; each local association was to organize itself independently. Certain conservative candidates present themselves as independent, others as independent conservatives. The candidates supporting the Prime Minister Simon Fraser Tolmie present themselves under the banner of the unionistic Party of the Colombia-British, and those supporting William John Bowser, a ancine Prime Minister, organize under the banner of the independent Group not-partisan. When Bowswer died, and elections in Vancouver Center and Victoria City were given, 4 candidates not-partisans and 2 unionistic desisted.
