General Vice-secretary of the United Nations

The general Vice-Secretary of the United Nations is the more important second civil servant of UNO after the General secretary of UNO. This function was created by the reforms of Kofi Annan in 1998 to help the General secretary to assume his responsibilities.

Mrs. Asha-Rose Migiro, up to that point Foreign Minister of the Tanzania, was named by Ban Ki-moon the January 5th 2006. She succeeds the British Mark Malloch Brown, according to on April 1st with the December 31st 2006.

The first general Vice-Secretary was the Canadian Louise Fréchette, of 1998 at end 2005.
