General Electric

In 2007, General Electric or GE is the first world Conglomérat and the second world market cap.

The firm has many subsidiary companies in the world; it is a value symbol of the Bourse of New York. It should not be confused with GEC, the General Electric Company plc , which is an English company re-elected since 1999 Marconi plc . Since beginning 2004, General Electric was the largest company of the capitalist Marché of the world, and for four years, it had been one of the only companies to make benefit. History

In 1876, Thomas Edison opens a laboratory with Menlo Park in the New Jersey. It is for example in this laboratory that it improves the lamp incandescent. After 1890, Edison had concentrated its companies under the name of “Edison General Electric Company”.

In 1879 Elihu Thomson and E.J. Houston created the rival company Thomson-Houston Electric Company. It also amalgamated with various companies and later with Charles A. Coffin, a former manufacturer of shoes of Lynn.

These fusions with competitors and industrialists put the two companies in dominant position in electric industry. As the number of companies increased, it became increasingly difficult for one or the other to produce complete electrical installations with its own technology. In 1892, these two companies were linked, forming “General Electric Company”, with its head office with Schenectady.

In 1896, “General Electric” was one of the twelve companies which formed the Dow Jones Industrial Average. GE is today the only one to be there still.

Today

Jeffrey Immelt succeeds Jack Welch in 2001. Since, Immelt made it possible GE to maintain an internal growth of more than 8%.

General Electric (the United States) is the second company in the world in term of total capitalization after Exxon Mobil. It lost its first rank in favor of the latter because of the recent blaze of the oil courses.

With this occasion, General Electric recruited in-house three new vice-presidents: Dave Calhoun (48 years) will direct GE Infrastructure, Michael Neal (52 years), GE Commercial Finances Services and John Rice (48 years), GE Industrial. GE Healthcare is chaired by Joe Hogan, NBC Universal by Bob Wright and GE To consume Finance by Dave Nissen.
