General Commission of terminology and neology
The general commission of terminology and neology is an administrative organization French whose mission is to contribute to the Enrichissement of the French language. Placed under the direction of the Prime Minister, it was created by the decree n° 96-602 of the July 3rd 1996 relating to the enrichment of the French language. Its mission, in addition to the enrichment of the Lexicon, by terminological creation and the neology, is to support the use of the French language, in particular in the scientist fields, legal, technical and economic and more generally to take part in the development of the Francophonie.
The general commission includes/understands seventeen members, of which the Acting general with the French language (see DGLF), the perpetual secretary of the French Academy, the president of the French Association of standardization and various personalities representing the Université S, the Superior council of the French language and the various ministries concerned (Culture, State education, Recherche, Francophonie). Its president is, since the origin, Mr. Gabriel de Broglie, member of the French Academy and Conseiller State Honoraire. Its Mandat was renewed the February 23rd 2005 for one four years duration.
Its work is relayed by Committees made up in each ministry to work on the specialized Vocabulaire S.
The commission publishes an annual progress report. The lists of adopted terms are regularly published in the Official journal of the French Republic. One can consult these lists here, on the site of the DGLF. In 1998, the commission produced a report/ratio on the feminization of the names of trade, function rank or title
