General Automobile Frenchwoman
See also: GFA
During the Post-war period, the General Automobile Frenchwoman (GFA), sometimes also named by " French grouping of Automobile".
Come into effect at the beginning of January 1946 to France, the plan quiquennal ''' Pons ''' envisaged to rationalize the French automobile production in these times of restrictions. Thus was decided to authorize the production of popular and utility vehicles to solid industry groups, Citroen and the control Renault. The manufacturers of more modest size were gathered according to synergies than had evaluated the ministry for the Industrial production to share their means of production and mutualiser their orders according to constraining schedules of conditions:
- With Peugeot was put into orbit Hotchkiss, Latil and Saurer.
- automobile French Union, or U.F.A. gathered Panhard, Somua and Willème.
- to form the G.F.A. which the baron Petiet chaired, one gathered around Simca the firms Delahaye (including its subsidiary company Delage), Unic, Camions Bernard and Laffly.
To Simca the care was entrusted to produce popular cars. Delahaye-Delage was authorized to build large models in the condition of holding essence with export of it. Unic, Bernard and Laffly were assigned to the production of trucks. Each one in fact preserved its former industrial orientations.
These regroupings being decided by a governmental play on bases lawful and industrial, but noneconomic, they did not imply any acquisition of a holding of a manufacturer on the other and did not have a posterity. With their dissolution, each firm took again its independence.
