Gene marker
A gene marker or gene rapporteur is a gene which one adds with a genetic construction in order to better detect the events of genetic transformation.
The genes markers can be genes of selection (gene of resistance to a Antibiotique (ex Kanamycine)) or a gene changing a character, locatable with the naked eye such as for example the use of:
- the Bioluminescence with:
- green fluorescent Protein (" Fluorescent Green Protein" in English or GFP),
- Luciférase, emitting a yellow light
- Gene GUS, coding an enzyme (beta-glucoronidase) which colors in blue the cells where it is active, but it is lethal
- of a gene modifying the color of the eyes in the drosophila, the Gène white,
The genes markers must obey in 3 conditions:
- to be foreign with the genome of the organization modified so that their product does not intervene in the metabolism
- their product must allow a fast visualization and specifies in order to determine in which fabric gene modified
- their product acts must be quantifiable in order to measure the activity of the promoter inducing the modification.
With not confusing
- genetic Marker,
- biological Marker,
