Gendarmenmarkt
The Gendarmenmarkt is in the center of Berlin one of the most beautiful places of the city. It is surrounded by the philharmonic concert hall and both Cathédrale S (French and German). In the center draws up a statue of the famous poet Frederic Schiller.
The place was created by Georg Christian Unger at the end of the 17th century under the name of Linden-Markt . Its current name comes to him from the regiment Cuirassier men-at-arms which was deployed there until in 1773.
During the Second world war the majority of the buildings were destroyed or strongly damaged but rebuilt with identical then.

the German cathedral (in German Deutscher Dom ) is in the south of the place. It has a pentagonal structure conceived by Martin Grunberg and was built in 1708 by Giovanni Simonetti. In 1785, it was modified by Carl von Gontard for the addition of the tower with dome. It lodges from now on a museum of the history of Germany.

the philharmonic concert hall (in German Konzerthaus ) is the most recent building since built in 1821 by Karl Friedrich Schinkel as the Schauspielhaus on the ruins of the national theater destroyed by a fire in 1817. It accommodates in residence the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester .
