Gendarme Argentino II

The Gendarme Argentino II , is a currently extinct Stratovolcan, which is in the province Argentine of Catamarca (Département of Tinogasta).

It is high of 6  013 meters.

Description

With the Gendarme Argentino I, it constitutes a volcanic massive solid located at the east with little distance from the solid mass of Nacimientos.

The two volcanos Gendarme Argentino I and II belong to the south-Eastern sector of the short volcanic chain of the zone of the 27 degrees of southern latitude, chains of about fifty kilometers length, directed East-West along the argentino-Chilean border and sheltering several of the highest volcanos of the ground.

It belongs to the volcanos close to the collar to the Paso to San Francisco.

Situation

This large old volcanic solid mass draws up its two tops at the Eastern end of a volcanic zone abounding in very high volcanos. It constitutes of it to some extent an imposing main door.

In north with 15 kilometers the volcano Nevado (6  is; 000 m), to more or less 18 km the El Muerto (6  488 meters). Always in north, but with five kilometers hardly, one finds the Medusa.

North-eastern side, at 15 kilometers of the crater also, is located the volcano Negro (5  373 m).

With twelve kilometers hardly in the North-West one can see the enormous solid mass of the Nevados Ojos del Salado (6  879 m).

In the west, with less than ten kilometers, the other giant Nacimientos is.

Finally with about fifteen kilometers in the east and south-east one finds the volcanos Rojo (4nbsp; 920 Mr.), Ojo of mow Lozas and the ploughed up cone of the Rasguido .

The Gendarme Argentino I

The Gendarme Argentino I fact part of the solid mass of the 2 Argentino Gendarme. It is about a second volcanic cone located very close to the Gendarme Argentino II, but less low. It is located at the north of the precedent, approximately 2 kilometers, and an altitude of 5  950 meters.
