Gendō Ikari

Gendo Ikari is a character of fiction of the Anime Neon Genesis Evangelion and of the film The End off Evangelion . It is commander-in-chief it of NERV.

Presentation

Within the NERV, Gendo is responsible for the research made on the EVAS and the Plan of Complementarity of the Man. He is the father of the 3rd Children, Shinji Ikari. At the commencement of the series, he is the only person showing of the affection towards Rei Ayanami.

Gendo is a brilliant scientist and politician (the marionnettist of the series), but is extremely cold and distant as a father. Its last words in The End off Evangelion translate its regret and the real reasons of its hard behavior. Little time after, the EVA-01 is shown seizing Gendo before exploding to him the head.

It is important to note that Gendo resembles to mistake there with the realizer of the series Hideaki Anno.

History

Gendo Ikari was born Gendo Rokubungi. During its studies, it met Yui Ikari with which it initiated a close relation. Certain people think that the only motivation of this relation is the fact that it is connected to organization SEELE. However, it progressively appears of the progression of the history that it really loved his wife. Thanks to the relation between Yui and the SEELE, it returned in contact with the organization and started to help them at the time of the Second Impact. Later, it Maria with Yui, with the beginning of the 21e century (it thus changed its name into Ikari) and Shinji was born the same year. They worked together with the GEHIRN, whose Gendo became the chief. After the failure of the activation of the EVA-01 and the “death” of Yui, Gendo became cold at the point to give up his/her son and to be devoted entirely to its version of Third Impact.

Plans

Although Gendo claims to follow the orders of the SEELE without putting question, it goes in fact all to try to handle the Committee. Finally, it will rebel openly against the SEELE so putting completely Third Impact under its control. It was established the embryo of Adam in the hand (seen in Evangelion Death and Rebirth) and tried to amalgamate with Rei to put a final point at its project.
