History
The castle of Genappe was the residence of the dolphin Louis, future king de France Louis XI, of the end of October 1456 at the end of July 1461. The dolphin, which did not get along with his/her father, the king Charles VII, had previously spent ten years in exile voluntary in its Apanage of the Dauphiné, and taken the escape when his/her father made invade the province the August 30th 1456, to force it to be allocated to the Court.Under the pretext of a shooting party, activity of which it was fond of delicacies, it put the course on Brussels, in company of a small escort, and reached the October 15th that point. It was accepted there with all the honors by the Duc of Burgundy Philippe the Good, which granted a pension of 36  to him; 000 pounds and pleasure of the castle of Genappe. Wrongly or rightly, the duke of Burgundy indeed regarded the king of France as directly responsible for the murder of his father Jean without Peur with Montereau in 1419, and thought of being done one obliged of the rebellious son of his old adversary, calculation which was to appear erroneous, as one noted it as of the accession of the dolphin to the throne of France.
The first four children of the future Louis XI and his wife Charlotte of Savoy were born with the castle from Genappe: three young dead children, then Anne (1461-1522), future lady of Beaujeu (1474), duchess of Bourbon and Auvergne (1488), countess of Walk and finally, regent of France (1483-1492) during the minority of his/her younger brother Charles VIII.
