History

The history of Gen 13 takes place in the universe Wildstorm and crosses sometimes the adventures of others bédés of Lee, like Wildcats and TEAM 7 (in fact, each main character of Gen 13 is the child of a member of the TEAM 7). The series profited from a bright graphics, quickly drawing the attention of readers who quickly became faithful.

The teenagers were at the origin simply to take part in a government project, but they learned that this project covered genetic tests in a quasi-prison environment. It is after having expressed their superhuman capacities that they escape and find themselves required like dangerous criminals. Their only hope is to manage to join their forces to fight their enemies and to discover their bonds with the TEAM 7.

After beginnings with success, the Co-creator and draftsman J. Scott Campbell pass the reins of the series to others (ED Buckets, Gary Frank, Lee Bermejo,…) to devote itself to its own successful series, Danger Girl.

The series will also give place to one-shots, mini-series, crossovers with other characters, special issues like with derived series like DV8 , darker counterpart, or Gen 13 Bootleg , which made it possible to artists to give their vision of the characters.

In spite of great reinforcements of bounces and the collaboration of multiple draftsmen, the popularity of the series declined until Wildstorm decides to explode all the team with a bomb of 6 megatons (number 76, July 2002).

The publication of the series was not stopped at this time there, beginning again simplment to 0 with new characters whose adventures were scénarisées by the veteran Chris Claremont. This version was not success and will stop at the end of 17 numbers.

The return of the original characters is envisaged in 2006 pennies the feather of Gail Simone and the pencils of Talent Caldwell.

Trivia

The original title of Gen X was changed into Gen 13 after Marvel threatened the studio of legal continuations for use of their trademark " X" , the more so as they wanted to launch a series derived from X-Men entitled Generation X . The fact that Jim Lee had just left Marvel where it ensured the success of X-Men did not arrange anything. The resentments were packed quickly since Lee worked again for Marvel thereafter on Iron Man and the Fantastic Four and that a cross-country race-over between Gen 13 and Generation X followed some time afterwards.
