Gekkoninae
This subfamily is populated subfamilies of geckos. One calls the geckos this subfamily the typical geckos, and they are a little the reference.
These geckos shares the following characteristics in general (but there are exceptions):
- possibility of mainly climbing on all surfaces thanks to their adherent bearings (see Setae) for the species Arboricolous S;
- absence of mobile eyelids;
- mainly night manners (with some exceptions, of which the Phelsumes, precisely called diurnal Gecko );
- mainly Insectivorous S, but some Espèces also consume Fruit S and nectars, even small Mammifère S or Reptile S for largest;
- capacity to vocalize in a spectacular way sometimes;
- and finally a good hearing.
As it is a large subfamily (more than 70 kinds and more than 1000 species in all) it is difficult to specify more before the characteristics and the medium of life of these geckos.
One finds for example geckos adapted to the wet forests ( Uroplatus ), in the dry mediums ( Tarentola ) even desert. The majority are night but one meets the diurnal ones or the twilight ones. Much is arboricolous, but others are terrestrial, sometimes both. One finds the small ones (less 2 cm for Sphaerodactylus ariasae , the record for vertebrate) and the large ones (30 cm and more for Uroplatus fimbriatus or some Rhacodactylus )…
In short, this subfamily presents a large variety of animals, and it is on the level of the kind that specificities appear.
