Gekiga

The gekiga (劇画) is a style of Manga whose leading target is the adults. It means " literally; drawings dramatiques" .

This term, created by Yoshihiro Tatsumi in 1957, contains the idea of drama (geki) and by analogy phonetics the idea of violence, force, intensity. By extension, the gekiga indicates the mangas published in the years 60-70 which tackle supposed serious subjects to correspond to the concerns or the sensitivity of the adults (not to confuse with the Hentai). An example would be Satsuma of Hiroshi Hirata.
