Geinoh Yamashirogumi
Geinoh Yamashirogumi is a musical Collectif Japanese, founded in 1974 by Shoji Yamashiro, gathering hundreds of people of all the social conditions: journalists, doctors, engineers, students, business men, etc This melting-pot of talents and ideas brings a dimension except par of creativity in their work, which one knows to be a skilful fusion of traditional music with high technology. For example, in the years 1980, the digital Synthétiseur MIDDAY could not handle the systems of adjustment of agreement of traditional music Gamelan, therefore the group had to start from zero, learning the programming to be able to modify their equipment and this, while they worked on what would become their most known work, the soundtrack of the Anime Akira Katsuhiro Otomo. But this work is not with it only representative of work of this group, the listening of Ecophony Rinne (1986) and of Ecophony Gaïa (1992) is quite as fundamental for a good appreciation of ethnomusicologic qualities of this collective. Geinoh Yamashirogumi accurately reproduced more than eighty styles different of traditional music and played them in the whole world, but although internationally having been acclaimed and having been criticized, there remains relatively unknown.
