GeeXboX
GeeXboX is a light LiveCD (approximately 10 Mo) based on Linux and MPlayer. It makes it possible to transform (almost) any computer into genuine Media center.
Characteristics
The main aim of this liveCD is to transform a PC into a Multimedia player. The codecs which can be used are very vast, it is enough to realize of the capacities of MPlayer to be convinced some. One of the advantages is to be able to engrave the files multimedia with the whole of software requirements for visualization or listening. Without needing to install anything on a computer, nor to modify the configuration of it.

The liveCD allows moreover:

Use of the subtitles
- Selection of the multiple audio channels (to have various languages on only one film)
- Use of the exit TV OUT (so present).
- Reading of the file musical (MP3 and Ogg Vorbis)
- Diaporama (JPG).
- Management of the interface with the major part of the existing remote controls on PC, or with a joystick, failing this with the keyboard.
- In option: telnet, Web server, Waiter ftp on the GeeXboX machine.
Installation
Several options are possible for the recovery of the application:
- LiveCD alone (. Iso) to engrave.
- Together of files (.tgz) allowing to generate a lLiveCD (.iso) with personalized contents. Function under Windows, Linux or Mac.
- Sources (.tgz)
The whole of the software intended to make function the PC holds in approximately 10Mo, that makes it possible to engrave one (or several) file (S) multi-media with the liveCD, and thus to return CD or the DVD bootable, with direct reading of (or of) the file (S) multi-media.
The installation on hard drive or a Clé USB starting from the liveCD is then always possible.
Structure
The first versions of GeeXboX were designed for PC (architecture X86). Since August 15th, 2005, GeeXboX is also available for architectures PowerPC, Macintosh, etc
License
GeeXboX is available free, under license LPG. So some codecs owners are lacking in the initial version, it is all the same possible to make them install.
