Gazeran

Gazeran is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at 6 km to the west of Rambouillet.

The name of “Gazeran”, in the past Gaserannum , would come from a name of origin Germanic, Wazeringus .

The inhabitants are called Gazeranais.

Geography

Vast rural district, largely timbered, Gazeran are included in the main forest of Rambouillet. It is bordering on Saint-Hilarion and Hermeray in the west, of Émancé, Orcemont and Orphin in the south, of Rambouillet in the east and Poigny-the-Forest in north.

The commune is sprinkled by the Guéville, small river, tributary of the Drouette, which takes its source in the park of the Château of Rambouillet.

The commune is served by a station of the line Paris - Chartres.

History

  • Site inhabited as of the Neolithic .

  • a strong Château is built in XIe century.
  • pledged Seigniory in the county of Montfort until XIVe century.
  • Soil bought in 1708 by the count of Toulouse which joins together it with the field of Rambouillet.

  • Saint-Anthony Castle-extremely: built in XIe century of which there remains only the work of entry provided with a drawbridge.
  • Church Saint-Germain-in Auxerre: church of the 11th century, altered with XVIIe and restored in 1856.
  • Castle of Guéville: building of Renaissance style dating from the end of the XIXe century.
