The university football team American of the Oklahoma Sooners evolves/moves in this enclosure. This stage is the property of the University of Oklahoma.

The stage was inaugurated in 1925 under the name of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium with the memory of died of the First World War. This enclosure counted 16.000 places. The platform East was set up in 1929 carrying the capacity in 32.000 places. In 1949, under the impulse of George L. Cross-country race, president of the University of Oklahoma, the stage is equipped with 55.000 places. One adds in 1957 seats behind the zone in southern goal carrying the capacity of the stage to 61.839 places. In 1975, the stage can accommodate 71.187 spectators then 75.000 in 1980 before going down again to 72.765 in 1988. After having changed all the armchairs of the stage into 2002, the enclosure is still increased in 2003 - 2004 in order to reach the current capacity: 82.112 places. This last work was cofinanced (12 million dollars on 75) by Christy Gaylord Everest, owner of the local newspaper The Oklahoman . In homage, the stage was renamed Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium .

The ground was equipped with an artificial surface between 1970 and 1994.
