Gay Simon François of Vernon
Simon-François Gay of Vernon says Gayvernon, born the November 24th 1760 with Saint-Léonard-with-Noblat (High-Vienna), died in Paris in 1822, officer of the genius then baron d' Empire, was professor of Fortification S at the Polytechnic school of 1798 to 1804, then director of studies until 1812.
Biography
Wire of Gay Simon François of Vernon and Valerie Marie Fargeau de Mortegoute, he studied with the seminar of Limoges then to the royal École of the genius of Wall (promotion 1780). With the rank of general adjudant, it fought in the Armée with the Rhine under the orders of the general Custine (1792-93) and, after the Prise of Mainz, strengthened this place with the colonel of the Clément genious, until the Siège of Mainz (1793) temporarily comes to put a term at the French presence in the Rhineland. In 1798, having reached the rank of colonel, it was named professor of fortifications to the Polytechnic school. It presented the following year a petition (supported by the general Jourdan) to the Conseil of the Five hundred to obtain to the rehabilitation of his brother Léonard, deposed of his civic rights. This step succeeds completely (July 23rd, 1799).Simon Gayvernon gave to Polytechniciens a primarily theoretical course, founded on a geometrical and graphic approach of the military questions. Its course, which it made publish in 1805, was translated into English, and was useful in the principal military academies of the beginning of the XIXe century.
