Gave d\' Estaing
The gave of Estaing or gave of Labat de Bun is a Affluent right of the Gave d' Azun to Bun in the Hautes-Pyrénées.
Etymology
Estaing , or rather estaïng /esta ŋ/, means pond in Gascon.
The gave was called gave beats of Bun because the valley belonged historically to the communes of Bun for Right Bank and of No for left bank. According to the slope used, one thus spoke about the beats of Bun (i.e valley of Bun) or of the beats of Any . Two hamlets thus named developed there. But it is not any more need to today allot the gave to one or with the other because in 1836, Louis Philippe gathered them by creating the commune of Estaing. The communes of Bun and Any preserved their rights of grazing ground in the valley and every year a festival of the Transhumance maintains this tradition alive.
Geography
The gave of Estaing takes its source around 2.080 m, with the foot of the Pic Arrouy (2 785 m) and of the Lac of the Peak Arrouy (2 376 m), Long Lake (2 326 m) and Lake Nère (2 241 m). It drains the Vallée of Estaing and joined the Gave d' Arrens to form the Gave d' Azun with height of Bun.
