Gautier of Montbeliard

Gautier of Montbeliard , died in 1212, wire of Amédé de Montfaucon, count de Montbéliard, and of Agnes of Montbeliard.

He married in first Bonne weddings of Scey of which he had a son, Pierre, then in second weddings Burgundy de Lusignan, girl of Amaury II of Lusignan, king de Chypre, and of Echive d' Ibelin of which he had:

  • Hugues of Montbeliard which was lord of Tibérias by marriage.
  • Echive of Montbeliard which married initially Gerard de Montaigu, then in 1231 Balian d' Ibelin, lord of Beirut.

With died of his father-in-law, he was regent of the kingdom of Cyprus in the name of his brother-in-law Hugues Ier. He organized a forwarding against the Seldjoukide S in Adalia (1206-1207). He was an advised and firm administrator, but also cruel and covetous, so that Hugues Ier, become major (1210), disgraced it, made him in party return throat and exiled it. It settled in Acre and was constable of the Royaume of Jerusalem.
