Gautier de Costes of Calprenède
Gauthier de Costes, sior of Calprenède , born with Salignac (the Dordogne) in 1609 and died in the Andelys (the Eure) the October 22nd 1663, is a writer and Dramaturge French.
After studies of magistrature to Toulouse, it goes up to Paris where it enters to the regiment of the guards. It became the bodyguard of the queen Anne of Austria in 1650.
He is the author of the tragedies the Death of Mithridate (1636) and the Death of the children of Hérode (1639). The best of its parts is the Count of Essex , given in 1638 and whose Thomas Corneille for his tragedy was inspired partly by the same name. It is especially known for its novel very appreciated at its time: Cassandre (1642 - 1645, 10 vol.), Cléopâtre (1647 - 1658), Faramond (1661) and the News, or Entertainments of the princess Alcidiane (1661) published under the name of her wife, the invaluable Madeleine de Lyée.
He died killed by a kick of his horse.
