Gautier Ier de Vexin
Gautier ( Walthar ) Ier de Vexin , born towards 920 - 5, died after 992, was count de Vexin, of Amiens and of Valois.
Its filiation is not known with certainty: it was considered a long time that it was wire of Raoul II of Gouy, count de Vexin, of Amiens and Valois, and Lietgarde, but of the later studies showed that Lietgarde died without child of its marriage with Raoul, and one currently admits that he was rather the brother of Raoul II, that is to say the second wire of Raoul Ier d' Ostrevent and of Hildegarde of Amiens. One also gives him for father Waléran de Crépy, but it is probably about a confusion with Galéran Ier, Viscount of Meulan and Mantes, second husband of Lietgarde, which one presented, wrongly, like the regent of the counties between the death of Raoul II and the majority of Gautier.
Enough young person with died of his/her brother, killed in a battle, it could not reconstitute the union of the three counties of Amiens, Vexin and Valois that towards 965. It maintained the good relationships with the archbishop of Rouen Hugues II, Vexin being dependant on this diocese. Henri, a relative of Gautier, married a sister of Hugues besides. In 991, died his/her Lietgearde sister-in-law, who held the Viscounts of Mantes and Meulan in Douaire. Gautier recovered Mantes, while Meulan was allocated to the son of Lietgarde, Galéran II.
He married in first weddings Eva, which one does not know large-thing, then in second weddings towards 950 Adele, probably girl of Foulque II the Good, count d' Anjou, and of Gerberge. Of this second marriage, it had:
- Gautier II the White, count d' Amiens, of Valois and Vexin
- Guy († 995), bishop of Soissons
- Raoul, listed in 975
- Geoffroy, listed in 987, which is perhaps identical to Geoffroy Ier († 992/7), count of Gâtinais.
- Foulques
