RPR
The December 5th 1976, creation of RPR by Jacques Chirac.
The purpose of the R.P.R. is “ to support a policy based on the intransigent respect of the sovereignty of the people and national independence, freedom, the responsibility and the dignity of the man ” ( Statuts ). As the R.P.R. will be opposed openly to the policy followed by Barre, in the name of the heritage gaullien of intervention of the State, the ministers must often have recourse to article 49-3 which lays out that a proposed text is adopted if a motion of censure does not collect majority.
After the recurring creation of trusts electoral with its allies of the UDF and various right-hand side, like the URC (Union of the Republic and the Center) in 1988 or the UPF (Union For France) in 1993, the RPR direction preaches - after the election of Jacques Chirac to the presidency of the Republic - with a narrower bringing together of the structures partisanes.
Thus, under the aegis of Philippe Séguin, in 1998 is created the Alliance , which gathers RPR, UDF and DLL. This structure will fall in déshérence in 1999, following the refusal of the UDF to draw up a list common to the European elections.
In 2000, RPR launches a building site of creation of a parliamentary line sole party: the UEM (Union Moving) is given for task to prepare the presidential election of 2002, by gathering the tendencies gaullists, liberal and democratic Christian.
The April 24th 2002, RPR approves the creation of a Union for the Presidential majority (UMP), intended to support Jacques Chirac for the second turn. The September 21st of the same year, extraordinary bases of Villepinte adopt to 86% the dissolution of RPR within UMP, new party whose bases founders - which will give him the name of Union for a Popular movement - will take place on November 17th, 2002.
The Union of the Young people for Progress (UJP, founded in 1965) and the Union of the Students for Progress (UEP) first of all constituted the youth movements of the movements successive gaullists, before are not created the RPR Young people, of which one of the first national leaders was Nicolas Sarkozy

Anecdotes
-
the chansonniers of the Années 1970 were ironical much about the fact that one had passed from RPF to UNR and UDT , then with the UNR-UDT , then with UDR …, the RPR (and since then with the UMP !) “More that changes, more it is the same thing” , began again.
-
It is curiously the draftsman Sempé who was the first to mention a political party named Rassemblement for the Republic , and that as of the Années 1960! The name appears indeed in one of its drawings of the time representing a demonstration. It seems that he had wanted to choose at the time a neutral name as as possible, not evoking neither the line, nor the left. The history does not say if it received or not royalties.
-
Note:: the initials “RPR” were in the past still used on the notarial parchments stamped of 16th and 17th centuries, to designate the believers of the “reformed alleged Religion”, i.e. the Protestants.
-
the official anthem of RPR begin with these words: " Fine bottom of the departments, whole France is put moving. It is true that we are proud, to be companions of RPR! "
-
on August 22nd 1996, the seat of RPR was occupied by about fifty people asking for the regularization of all them Without-papers (collective Of Papers For All )
