Gaston Roupnel
Gaston Roupnel (1871-1946) is a historian French, ruralist and modernistic. Professor at the University of Dijon, it is also known as regionalistic writer and journalist. Its Histoire of the French countryside (Grasset, 1932) will ensure a durable recognition to him and will be commented on by Marc Bloch and Lucien Febvre. On the other hand, History and destiny (Grasset, 1943) concretize a philosophy of the history in shift with the contemporary construction of a historical discipline like social science. Its defense of a “structural history” will be appreciated by Fernand Braudel and constitutes one of the sources of its reflection over the long life.
