Gaston IV of Foix-Béarn

Gaston de Grailly or Gaston IV , count de Foix, Viscount of Béarn (1425 - July 1472). The July 30th 1436, it Marie with Éléonore Anger of Navarre, heiress of the Kingdom of Navarre. Gaston IV thus obtained the Government of the Royaume of Navarre in 1455.

Ascent

He is the son of Jean I {{er}} of Foix (count de Foix and Bigorre, Viscount of Béarn and Villemur) and of Jeanne d' Albret.

Marriage

He marries Éléonore Ire of Navarre the July 30th 1436.

It is then not queen and offers only few prospects to become it:

But the death of Charles, then of White, brought the throne of Navarre to Éléonore.

One knows eight children of his union with Éléonore:
  • Gaston de Foix (v. 1443-1470), (called “Gaston V of Foix” by certain authors), Viscount of Castelbon, prince de Viane (1462-1470), general lieutenant of Navarre (1469), father of the kings de Navarre François Phébus (v. 1468-1483) and Catherine Ire of Navarre (1468-1517)

  • Jean de Foix (v. 1446-1500), Viscount of Narbonne (1468-1500), count d' Étampes (1478-1500), claiming with the throne of Navarre with died of its nephew François Phébus, married in 1476 with Marie of Orleans (1457-1493)
  • Marguerite de Foix (v. 1449-1486), married the June 27th 1471 with Clisson with François II (1435-1488), duke of Brittany - Mother of Anne of Brittany, twice queen of France
  • Pierre de Foix (February 7th, 1449 - August 10th, 1490), (called “Pierre II of Foix” by certain authors), told to Pierre the Young person , cardinal (1576), viceroy of Navarre (1479-1484)
  • Marie de Foix (apr. 1452-1467), married in 1465 with Guillaume VIII, marquis de Montferrat
  • Jeanne de Foix (apr. 1454-apr. 1476), married in August 1469 with Lectoure, with Jean V (1420-1473), count d' Armagnac
  • Catherine de Foix (apr. 1460-front. 1494), married in 1469 with Gaston de Foix (apr. 1440-1500), (called “Gaston II of Foix” by certain authors), count de Foix, count ( earl ) of Kendall
  • Jacques de Foix (v. 1470-1500), count de Montfort - without legitimate posterity - It however had mistresses of the illegitimate children like Frederic de Foix - Master of the Horse of Navarre (Lord of Almeneches, Conches, Ivermesnil and Lyons) married to Francoise de Silly.
