Gaston Eyskens is a Politician Belgian born on April 1st 1905, with Lierre and died in Leuwen the January 3rd 1988. Professor with the Catholic University of Leuwen (1931), it began his political career like catholic deputy for the district of Leuwen in 1939. Minister for Finance in 1945, 1947 and 1965 (under the governments Achilles van Acker, Paul-Henri Spaak and Pierre Harmel), it was named Minister of state in 1963. In 1949, during the royal Question, it formed its first government. Its coalition with the liberal held only until in 1950. It returned to the head of a government in 1958, for two consecutive but incomplete legislatures. With the school Pact, its government provided the foundations of peace as regards teaching. Other important moments: laws of expansion of 1959 and the independence of Congo, in June 1960. In fact the negative reactions (in particular strikes) with the “single Law” made fall its government. Of 1968 with 1972, he was again Prime Minister. It concluded the great project of revision of the constitution. It chaired last once a government, January 21st 1972 with the November 22nd of the same year. This government was to fall on the 107 quater and the problem from Fourons. It was made Viscount by the king.
