Gaspar de Portolà
Gaspar de Portolà (born 1716 - deceased after 1784) was a Spanish soldier , Gouverneur of the California S (Baja and Alta) (1767 - 1770), explorer and founder of the towns of San Diego and Monterey.
A statue of 2,7 meters carved by the Catalan artist Josep Maria Subirachs and its associate, Francesc Carulla, was high in its honor in the town of Pacifica. It was given to the State of California by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1988.
