Gasoline (philosophy)
The Concept of gasoline (of Latin essentia , of the verb ess , being, derived from the Greek ousia ) indicates in Métaphysique the persistent Réalité of a to be through the modifications of its Accident S. Of a being, one can say that it is , or this that it is , which introduces the two correlative gasoline and Substance. The first raises the question of the what for a being, and makes it possible to release the essential Nature from it and invariant.
Thereafter, one distinguishes, by Opposition this time, the gasoline of the Existence, insofar as the existence is the realization of the gasoline.
Theory of knowledge
In the field of the Knowledge, this distinction means that the gasoline is the condition of possibility of the Définition and the concept, because what is a thing is for it necessary and identical to oneself. Thus, the need is the object of the scientific speech. A circle drawn on a table exists as a drawing, but its identity, it, amounts defining the circle.
For as much, all the gasolines are not worth when one has suddenly known them as such, i.e. as a reality: Plato thus distinguishes significant reality and understandable reality or idéelle , the first holding its gasoline only of the second; but the seconds escape common knowledge from the men, who thus miss a share of reality.
Gasoline and existence

See also the article Existence
The Essentialisme ensures that the existence is empirical and does not allow to know the beings: it is the field of accidental and the quota, the multiple and the irreducible otherness. Contrary, the Existentialisme place gasoline like the noncontingent fruit of the existence of the subject. At Heidegger, the gasoline of the man consists in being included/understood as a being-there, i.e as an existence. In the first case, whose Descartes is a representative, the essential abstraction of the existence gives the gasoline, and conversely in the second, as at Sartre.
Gasoline and appearance
The Apparence seems the opposite of reality ( LMBO , rei : thing), which is not in the field of the idea: indeed, one distinguishes the idea easily, of the thing which one has an idea. This distinction introduces the metaphysical questioning on the reality of appearances, and its plurality which is opposed to the identity gasoline.
Concept of possession
Beyond what characterizes the clean individual, which it has also comes to qualify it and to define it as a part of a Communauté. That which has a car belonged to the “world” of the motorists; that which has the fair hair is fair. The two concepts merge so much so that in the spoken language, they meet. Thus, an auxiliary can not have any intrinsic direction: “I am gone to eat” means not that I went to eat with the direction where that would characterize me and would modify my substance. In the same way, to say that “I ate” does not imply the Possession of the action “to eat”: that remains abstract. Consequently, one should not be astonished so sometimes one hears sentences such as “I went up on the floor” or “I was mistaken”: gasoline, substance and possession belong to the same chain of concepts, that of the characterization of the Man and his metaphysical and social definition.
Ethics
The gasoline being the what it is of a to be, it of it is the normative structure; consequently, for the man, the fact of human being imposes rules on the singular individual, whose contingent individuation is inessential and thus any ethical value does not found. Ethics will be then for a particular man the effort of his existence to join its gasoline (its to be human).
Theology
In Théologie (see Thomas d' Aquin), it is allowed that in God the gasoline and the existence are only one and even thing; God is from his own gasoline. On the other hand, the gasoline of the Homme does not imply the Existence. The man is thus one being which holds its Existence of another thing; it is this relation of dependence which founds the religious bond of the creature to its creative….
Tradition
In the lesson of the Tradition, " the gasoline is purely emotional. It is first of all the result of the hereditary data which precede the formation by the personality and, later, only that of the later influence of the feelings and of the feelings in the medium of which the man saw, develops. (...) The center of gravity of the gasoline is the emotional center. "
Gnosis
In the Gnosticisme, the gasoline corresponds to the heart, which have Psychiques and Pneumatiques.
Critical
The criticism of this distinction usually passes by the negation of the gasoline, either like reality, or like to be understandable by the man. It is the case for example in the skepticism and at Nietzsche. This negation is transformed sometimes into Nihilisme, since it is not possible any more to make reality an understandable object endowed with Sens and that the values of the ethical do not find any more any base certain.
An argument against the concept of gasoline is that to become it no stable reality admits, because the idea of an immutable being is contradictory, and that what one names gasoline is only one transitory aggregate of forces or atoms.
Consequence of the negation of the gasoline, the assertion of only the Existence.
