The gas oil (or fuel oil , or gas oil ) or diesel is the name of a fuel. Physically it is a light Fuel and, in the regular manner a Carburant (Norme Fiscale) resulting from the Raffinage of oil.

Use

It is used in the diesel engine . The French publicity agents use the word " often wrongly; diesel" of incorrect use (in fact name of the engine invented by Diesel Rudolf for which the current standards and the Fisc French impose like road fuel the gas oil (attention, in change). Derivative words, deposited or not, such " dieselplus" are on the other hand of an acceptable use in the absence of being completely correct.)

Other formulations

When the gas oil is manufactured without oil, or with a less gas oil portion, one speaks about Biodiesel. This recent term is disputed because of its more or less usurped environmental connotation. In fact, this term recovers two different fuels:
  • gas oil mixed with fuels of origin Vegetable E (Biocarburant). Name in this case is usurped, because the percentage of fuel of vegetable origin is generally weak (~10%).
  • fuel of vegetable origin usable by the diesel engines. Generally of plant oil ethyl ester (EEHV) or of plant oil methyl ester (EMHV). The EEHV with the advantage of being producible starting from ethanol and of plant oil, is products which one can obtain at 100% starting from agriculture.

Some propose " agridiesel" but attention all that is not fixed!

The density of the gas oil is approximately 850 kg/m ³. In France, there is not obligation to inject gas oil in the engines of the agricultural machines or public works. In general the domestic Fuel (FOD), first cousin of the gas oil is used in the place.

In the same way, the Avion S with diesel engine are authorized to use Jet A1, a Kérosène a little lighter than fuel but sufficiently fatty not to seize up the Pompe S. In the event of major crisis the use of the jet A1 is planned for the military vehicles diesel (recommendation NATO).

Disadvantages

The composition of all the products of distillation of oil can vary, is adapted to the legislation in progress. Indeed, the sulfur content of automobile fuels has disadvantages, like the more important formation of soots (particles), Sulfur dioxide (SO2) then which can transform into Acid sulphuric (H2SO4) in the presence of water (Acid rain), or of Sulfure of hydrogen H2S (gas with the rotted egg odor).
