Gary Payton

Gary Dwayne Payton (born the July 23rd 1968 with Oakland, California, the United States) is a professional basketball player American having evolved/moved in NBA with the position of leader of play. He was a player emblematic of the league under the colors of the Seattle or it formed an explosive duet with Shawn Kemp. He also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics, and finally the Miami Heat with which he gained championship NBA in 2006. Payton was also known for its " trash talking" (recessing) which did of him one of the more " large gueules" nba.

Its nickname, The Glove ( the Glove ), recalls its aggressive and tough defense on the man. For the little story, it is the cousin of Payton which called it during the finales of the Western Conference 1993 to tell him " that it held Kevin Johnson like a ball of baseball in a gant". The nickname remained.

High School and university career

Payton attends Skyline High School of Oakland, California, and plays in the team of Basket-ball of the school with Greg Foster, which will also play in NBA. Payton between with the Oregon State University (OSU) of Corvallis, Oregon. During its four last years with OSU, it becomes one of the players of tennis shoe most rewarded for the history of the university. During its Senior Year (4th and last year of university), it makes the cover of Sports Illustrated of the March 5th 1990, qualified better player univeristaire of the country. It gains an interminable list of distinctions during its university career, leading Beavers to the higher realms of the American basketball univeristaire, and is elected with the Hall Off Famed of OSU in 1996.

Career NBA

Payton is selected in 2nd position of the draft 1990 by the Seattle SuperSonics, for which it will play during 12 years and half. Waited like the Messiah in the league, Payton fights during its first two seasons, turning at 8.2 points per match during this period. However, it proves quickly that it is one of the best leaders of NBA, being in 1994 selected for the first time in one of the standard teams of the league (All-NBA Third TEAM).

The September 22nd 2005, it signs a contract of $1.1 million with the Miami Heat, being found again with Antoine Walker (arrived at Miami seven weeks earlier), and with Shaquille O'Neal, old Laker. Payton gains finally its first championship NBA at the time of its 16th season when, the June 20th 2006, its team beats the Dallas Maverciks at the end of the 6th match of the NBA Finals 2006. Payton returns two shots cruciaus at the time of this series. The shot of the victory (on the buzzer) of the 3rd match, and the shot which gave the final advantage (1 small point) to Heat at the time of the 5th match.

The September 6th 2006, Payton, 38 years old, resigns a one year old contract with the champion in title. The financial agreements were not revealed.

Distinctions and trophies

It is taken again 8 times of sharpened in the team-type of the league, selected in the All-NBA First TEAM in 1998 and 2000, in the AlNBA TEAM Second in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2002, and in the AlNBA Third TEAM in 1994 and 2001. It has been also selected in the very prestigious NBA All-Defensive First TEAM (standard team gathering the 5 best defenders) 9 times of continuation (of 1994 to 2002) and gains the trophy of better defender in 1996, becoming thus the first back to gain it for 8 years.
