This defender is international English. He is the older brother of Phil Neville, also footballer who played for his fatherland, and of Tracey Neville, which played for the national team of Netball. Neville played 85 times (at February 7th, 2007) for the national team of England without marking of goal. Neville is now the captain of Manchester United, since the departure of Roy Keane. It took part in the World cup 2006, as a first choice of right defender, in front of Jamie Carragher and Owen Hargreaves. July 1st, 2006, he was captain of the English team for the first time, after the departure of the ground of David Beckham, wounded. Neville preserved good contacts with David Beckham, and was the Témoin for the marriage of this one with Victoria Adams, the Spice Girl.

International career
Neville made its beginning for the national team in 1995 when it was chosen by Terry Venables for the friendly match against the Japan. For this day it has been the first choice like right back for its country, while playing for five different trainers. Gary was the only player who had more than 30 years which was selected in the first group of Steve McClaren, when David Beckham, David James and Sol Campbell were omitted. Gary and its Phil brother are the only players remaining of the group of the Championnat of Europe of football 1996.
When it appeared as a replacement against the Italy with Leeds in 2002, it honoured its fifty-and-unième wraps, exceeded the national record of the station of right back of Phil Neal. Moreover, it holds the highest number of capes in the history of the national team without marking a goal.
Neville is considered, except in the event of wound, like a good candidate to carry out a total of one hundred capes for England; or at least, that it becomes right back with the greatest number of capes, in this moment the record belongs to Kenny Sansom.
He was the youngest holder of the national team during Championnat of Europe of football 1996, its first international tournament, and he played each meeting until the semi-finals, when he was suspended. Moreover it represented its country during the Football world cup of 1998 and the Championnat of Europe of football 2000. A wound with the métatarse, the same wound from which David Beckham had suffered, only a few weeks after, resulted from its absence to the World cup 2002 with the Japan and in South Korea. Danny Mills replaced it throughout this tournament. When well even Gary carried out its team return main road quickly and it once again consolidated its position like holder before the Championnat of Europe of football 2004.
Gary was wounded for the last matches of qualification of the World cup 2006, however it returned in the English team in March 2006 for the friendly match against the Uruguay.
As envisaged, Neville selected in the group of was selected of England for the World cup 2006 in Germany. He played in position of right back during the first match of England in the Group B against the Paraguay. However, Neville was wounded during the drive the evening before the second match of the team against Trinity-and-Tabago. Because of this wound, it has to miss this match, the last match of the phase of group against the Sweden, and also the eighth of finale against the Ecuador.
