Garry McCoy

Garry McCoy is a pilot Australien, multiple winner in Grand Prix motor bike.

Born the April 18th 1972 with Camden in the suburbs from Sydney (Australia), Garry begins its career on speedways in Dirt-track. It is there that he learns how to control the Glisse.

Promising beginnings in 125

After a first Wild Card with the GP of Australia 125 in 1992, it carries out its first season supplements in the same category the following year during which it returns to three recoveries in signal 10 (7th to Laguna Seca; 10th with Eastern Creek and Imola). It will have to await 1995 and GP de Malaisie 125 to gain its 1st victory under dantesques weather conditions. He will repeat in 1996 by gaining the last Grand Prix of the season with Eastern Creek. The following year, it will make a success of its best season into 125 by finishing 7th championship 125, finishing twice on the podium (3rd with the Mugello and the Paul Ricard) and taking down its first pole position always on the circuit of Provence of the Paul Ricard.

King of slips into 500

In 1998, it passes in the queen category to the handlebar of Honda Shell Advance 500 V2. With one of the least competitive motor bikes of the plate, it does not make miracles and sees its season curtailed after a fracture of ankle had with a fall on the circuit of Brno. In the course of season 1999, the TEAM Yamaha RedBull of Peter Clifford separates from its New Zealand pilot Simon Crafar and chooses the sympathetic nerve Australian to finish the season. At this point in time its so spectacular style all in Glisse appears with the eyes of Continental Circus. Principal feats of arms: an enormous fall with Donington and one 3rd place with Valencia.

In 2000, after having developed Yamaha 500 and the tires Michelin 16,5 inches, it creates the surprise by gaining the 1st race of the season with Welkom. Its slip disproportionate amaze the plate of the Grands Prix and Garry McCoy finishes the season in the 5th final place thanks to its 3 victories (Welkom, Valencia, Estoril) and 3 other podiums (Sepang, Brno, Rio).

In 2001, always with the handlebar of Yamaha RedBull 500, it counts among the favorites of the season as its 2nd place at the time of the Grand Prix of opening to Suzuka attests it. Unfortunately, it fractures the scaphoïde whereas it dominated the tests of the Grand Prix of France to the Mans. It will miss many races and, once restored, will go up on the podium only to two other recoveries (Estoril and Sepang).

The arrival of 4-Time marked its decline

In 2002, for its 3rd complete season with the TEAM Yamaha RedBull, it fractures the leg with Estoril whereas it dominated the winter tests again. Its season will be very disappointing: vis-a-vis the arrival of the surpuissantes 990cc 4T which will gain all the Grands Prix of the season, the old women 500cc 2T seldom draw their pin from the play. There will be qualified nevertheless several times in first line, remaining the last pilot 500 to have carried out such a performance.

In 2003, it joined the TEAM Kawasaki Eckl and has - as totality the plate of a 990cc 4T. The frame of Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR is not very effective, the engine not powerful enough and the Dunlop tires very far from the reference Michelin: the Australian pilot is determined to make figuration in spite of a style of pilot always also blazing. He seldom returns in the points, making despite everything some exploits under particular conditions (race under the rain with the Mans or tests in residence with Phillip Island). At the end of the season, he sees the door of the Grands Prix being closed again.

False hopes in Superbike

In 2004, it leaves in championship the world Superbike in the TEAM Ducati NCR Carrachi and carries out beginnings in brass band. Better time in race for the first sleeve of the season with Valencia, it gains the victory as of its 4th attempt over the Australian circuit of Phillip Island. Having a private machine, it will not republish this performance. " Gazza" nevertheless several times will finish on the podium as in Monza (2 times 3rd). It finishes finally 6th championship and sees even the right to carry out a measuring rod with the GP of Australia MotoGP with the Aprilia RS3.

In 2005, it signs at Foggy Petronas Racing but the experiment is a failure: the 990 3-cylinders is not powerful and Garry must be solved with cotoyer the funds of grid. It then chooses to put a term at collaboration with the team of Carl Fogarty.

Measuring rods in the world of the motor bike

Not finding a handlebar for 2006, it in vain tries a reconversion in Championship of the World Supermotard, then takes part in the 24 Hours of Mans Moto for the TEAM GMT94 of Christophe Guyot. Discovering all the discipline and in particular the piloting of night, the " King Off Slide" taste with the joys of the podium in company of Sebastien Gimbert and David Checa. At the end of the season, Mario Illien proposes to him the development of the Ilmor X3 and Garry McCoy becomes the first pilot to be returned in the points in MotoGP with a 800cc to Estoril then to Valencia. It was had a presentiment of to control X3 for the season 2007 but Jeremy McWilliams and Andrew Pitt will be preferred to him. Since, Garry McCoy still did not find a handlebar.
