Gareth Owen Edwards , born the July 12th 1947 in Pontardawe, is a player Welsh of Rugby to XV, evolving/moving at the half station of of fray.
He is regarded by much as the best player of the history of Rugby, the equivalent of Pelé in football.
Gareth Edwards was a child of Welsh minors of Gwaun-cae-Gurwen. It enters to the public school of Millfield thanks to its scores.
It begins with the Wales on April 1st 1967 at only 19 years against the France with a defeat 20-14 with Paris.
He is captain of Wales at only 20 years in February 1968 against the Scotland for a victory 5-0 with Cardiff. He will leave this honor to more experienced players.
He belongs to the team of Wales which dominates the Five Nations tournament, gaining the title 7 times with 3 Grand Slam with the key. He will thus play 53 times consecutively for his national team, including 13 as captain. To this, one can add the 10 tests matches disputed with the Lions.
It will initially form the Welsh hinge with Barry John with 23 recoveries then with Phil Bennett by 25 times.
He is also the author of what is regarded as the Essai of the Century at the time of the one of the most famous matches of the history with the team of the Barbarians which played against the Blacks in 1973.
A statue with its effigy was even built of alive sound in the center of Cardiff.
He played in club with Cardiff.
