Gardens of the Fountain

The Gardens of the Fountain are a park located at Nimes in the Gard and worked out around the mythical nîmoise source and of ancient monuments (Temple of Diane, Tour Magne).

It is one of the first public parks of Europe and always one of most remarkable.

They have be realized in 1745 according to project of Jacques Philippe Mareschal (on an inspiration of André Ours which arranged the parks of the Palais of Versailles), military engineer of King Louis XV and director of the foundations of the Province of Languedoc.

Respecting the plan of the ancient sanctuary around the founder source of the city (Nemausus), Jacques Philippe Mareschal and G. Dardailhon drew a garden with the Frenchwoman of most remarkable where many Mediterranean species are currently gathered.

The Temple of Diane is the most enigmatic monument of Nimes. Certainly associated with the imperial sanctuary, its exact function remains still unknown.

The Gardens of the Fountain belong to the " remarkable gardens of France " : gardens profiting from the label decreed by the ministry for the culture, to see the " Official list of the Gardens remaquable".

The entry of the gardens is free and free.

Schedules of openings: 8:00 with 20:00.
