The gardens of Tivoli (Tivoli Gardens) are one of major attractions in the current center of Copenhagen, with the Denmark.

It is about a Amusement park including/understanding many attractions (Russian Montagnes, various trains) but also exposures, concerts, mimes, etc

History

The gardens of Tivoli were open the August 15th 1843, which makes the older second of it Amusement park of the Denmark, after Bakken, the garden of the deer, having been preserved in a form close to the origins.

At the time, the Denmark was an absolute monarchy, and Copenhagen a strengthened city, surrounded by ramparts and ditches. Tivoli was an immediate success for the 120.000 inhabitants of the time.

Position

The founder Georg Carstensen (1812 - 1857), convainquit the king Christian VIII of Denmark of the cogency of this company in him blowing that when the people have fun, it does not think of the policy . The name

The gardens were initially named Tivoli & Vauxhall by allusion to the gardens of Tivoli to Paris and to the Jardins Vauxhall with London.

In 1944, the Nazis tried to reduce the Danish culture by burning a good number of buildings of Tivoli, of which the concert hall. Danish built temporary buildings then what made it possible the park to take again its activity a few weeks later.

Currently

Tivoli receives approximately 4 million visitors per annum, which makes of it the principal attraction of the Denmark (2004). The majority of the visitors are Danish, and among the foreign visitors, the Swedish are most numerous.

Attractions

Tivoli has two seasons:
  • the season of summer mid- April until end September, with fires of artifices and concerts.
  • the season of Christmas mid- November until the Danish December 23rd, and its traditions.

Tivoli is a place mainly appreciated of Danish because it is cordial. He visits himself especially in family. He has a great number of plays, ten dynamic attractions, a score of calm attractions (2004).

Attractions make it possible to discover the Scandinavian Mythologie (with the extremely of Valhalla , Valhalla Borgen ), the tales of Hans Christian Andersen (with the flying bags , Den flyvende Kuffert ), the sight on Copenhagen (with the tower ), and the theater of mimes which proposes a perpetuation of the Italian Commedia dell' arte (in a softened form).
" Mountains russes" of Tivoli (1914), belong to oldest built out of wood. Attraction " Himmelskibet" , (the boat of the sky-2006), is highest of the world with its 80 meters.

The current director of Tivoli (2007) is Mr Lars Liebst.
