Garden off Remembrance
The Garden off Remembrance (garden of the memory) is a Jardin with Dublin in memory of those which lost the life for the independence of the Ireland. It commemorates in particular the victims of the war of independence, but also deaths of other conflicts which made it possible Ireland to reach its current statute: revolts of 1798 and 1803, the revolt of the young Irishmen, the rising of Fenian in the Years 1860 and the rising of Easter 1916. The civil war is generally not commemorated here, since this war politically remains a sensitive topic. In the same way, the members of WILL GO killed after 1922 - 1923 are not celebrated here.
This garden, designed by Dáithí Hanly was inaugurated in 1966 by President Eamon de Valera at the time of the fiftieth birthday of the rising of 1916. The general form is a cross, since a basin also in the shape of cross composes the major part of the garden. This basin is dominated by a sculpture called The Children off Lir carried out by Oisin Kelly.
