Garden of the State

Formerly called Garden of Roy , the Jardin of the State is only true the Botanical garden of Saint-Denis, with the Réunion.

Planted Tree S and of spice S brought back of the outside of the island by Pierre Pepper, it shelters a Muséum of natural history open in August 1855. It has even arranged him between 1767 and 1773.

Its main entrance gives today on a small place serving the Rue of Paris which decorated with two small stone arches and a bust of the general of the First Empire François Gédéon Bailly de Monthion. One finds in the garden itself a bust of Pierre Poivre and a Fontaine Wallace.

History

Been useful by Botanist S impassioned like Joseph Hubert, Nicolas Bréon and Jean-Michel-Claude Richard, the garden knows its golden age at the beginning of the 19th century: it contains then more: 2000 species.

: 7000 of its seedlings are distributed to the population in 1825 within the framework of the mission of improvement of the colonial Agriculture.
