Garden of Trocadéro

The garden of Trocadéro is located in the XVI {{E}} district, vis-a-vis the the Seine. It has a surface of 93.930 m ², and was created for the World Fair of 1937 on the site of the preceding garden of the Palais of Trocadéro carried out by Jean-Charles Alphand for the Exposition of 1878. It is surrounded by the Palais of Chaillot.

It is remarkable for its famous fountain of Warsaw (1937). A series of basins in cascade dominates a large basin of which the water cannons form fifty six sheaves which finish their race in eight water staircases. The whole is arranged by the architect Roger-Henri Expert. The gardens are punctuated of a multitude of sculptures, of which some date from the years 1930, as the Man of Cross-piece and the Woman of Bacqué, who overhang the basins.

The places were baptized thus in commemoration of the battle which proceeded on August 31st 1823 and during which a French task force removed the Fort of Trocadéro which defended the port of Cadiz, in Spain.
